We had a very relaxed session. Valent was exceptional with Thomas. You could tell that he's a parent himself, the way he dealt with him, and got him to settle better than us.
The approach to the photography session was not just about taking a photo of him or us, it was more about kind of trying to capture our relationship and the connections we have with him. It was a really positive experience and hopefully something we come back to more and more.

It took some effort getting to the studio after the birth as we had some complications and had to go back to the hospital a few days after initially coming home with our daughter. My wife almost didn't want to be in the photos because she was so tired. But we are so happy we made it in for the photoshoot!
When we look at our artwork on the walls, we remember how our daughter was at that age, and the amazing moments Valent was able to capture which we will cherish forever. I definitely recommend making that effort going in the first week after birth. It was so worth it!

My wife and I came in to see Valent to get photos taken of our 5 week old son. Initially we just wanted to get a few casual shots, we didn't think we'd want many. We had portraits done with our 4 month old baby with Valent Lau Photography. It was a cold day outside so it was good to be inside in a warm studio. Our son was initially asleep but soon woke up after arriving.
Valent was good at getting lots of different shots of our son, and lots of different details. We love the resulting photos. At our fully equipped studio in Coogee, we offer you a warm and inviting space where you can relax and enjoy the time without worrying about cleaning and tidying for a home shoot.
We use professional soft lighting that beautifully accentuates your child’s adorable features, creating stunning and timeless images.

The best time to capture your newborn is between in the first 2 weeks after birth. Since you are in hospital for the first few days, it’s best to come in right after going home. This is the best time to capture that etherial, womb-like state. But this isn’t the only age. There are also other ages that are great for baby photography. Check our blog for a detailed explanation.
Where can we have a newborn photography session?
For the utmost comfort and convenience, our Eastern Suburbs studio is perfect for sessions with very small babies. It’s climate controlled and comfortable, allowing you to relax and fully enjoy the experience. We can also go to a range of outdoor locations in Sydney – however, it’s you should consider the weather and elements, especially when dealing with a newborn. Another option is that we visit your home with our studio equipment. Talk to us to discuss your unique needs.
Do you include parents and siblings in the photoshoot?
Yes, we love to include the whole family in the celebration. After all, we want to see baby, but when they grow up, they will want to see photos with mum, dad, and all the siblings. We’ll plan with you all the different combinations so nobody is left out.
Do you provide wraps and props?
We have a range of color wraps for your shoot. We also have some buckets and other small props. For hygiene, we wash everything between clients. For the parents, we’ve also partnered with a dress hire company so you can have access to a huge range of clothing in current styles.
What if my baby isn’t well?
Your little bundle of joy is also full of surprises. If they are unwell, or has broken out with a rash, or flaky dry skin, then we will reschedule your session so they can rest. We’ll talk about contingencies when you book in your session.
When do I get to see my photographs?
We know you’re excited to see your images. No more waiting for weeks. We offer your Design Consultation in the studio the same afternoon of your shoot. During this fully guided consultation, you will see all the beautiful images we have captured and be able to create your artwork.
