Many parents wonder about their maternity photography session with a second child.
What is it like having an older brother or sister at a pregnancy session? Will they behave, will they get bored, will they get tired from a long photographic session?
Because it is your second, you have already decided that pregnancy photos are worth it. You’re excited to welcome another child into your family, and even have some pregnancy gowns ready. But you’re not sure about how to include your first child.
These are some worries parents may have with younger children. But don’t worry, we set our maternity sessions so that there are plenty of breaks for children to relax.
Parts of a Maternity Photography Session
Pregnancy photography sessions usually go for about 1.5 hours. But depending on different circumstances, taking breaks, and changes, we may go for even longer.
This is a long time for a small child to wait, and so we separate our sessions into smaller parts. This lets kids be kids, and they bring their personalities into the studio so we capture those genuine smiles.
When we first arrive, it’s a great time to capture the full family photographs. To capture your love as a full family, to see how excited your child is to be a big sister, and just to enjoy some valuable family time together.
Mum & Dad
This part is a love letter to your unborn bub. It shows how you’re looking forward to meeting them, but also celebrates the journey you’ve taken to get to this point.
Siblings can have a break and play while mum and dad get some alone time. You talk to each other about your hopes and wishes, your promises to each other for the future. It’s a great time to reconnect on a deeper level.
Mum & Bub
Then we have some time of just celebrating mum and her achievements. Capturing mum just radiant, showing off the belly. You can feel the connection with unborn bub, and the joy it brings.
Dad will be here for a few shots, then he can have a little break with the older sibling in the waiting room.
Celebrate Your Older Children
We take some time to celebrate the independent, young child and the love you have for them. With all the baby preparation, they may feel a bit left out, so it’s a great opportunity to put the focus back on them.
Capture the connection you have with each other, and show they are still an important part of your lives.
This is also a chance for mum to take a break!
Celebrate Your Whole Family
Each session changes according to your unique family, but we make sure we celebrate each part of your lives and your journey to this point. We structure your pregnancy photographic session so that siblings have plenty of breaks so they enjoy the whole process. Everyone can look back at your beautiful artwork and remember the emotions.
